Looks like the new website is working out rather well. So far no major issues, and the new design seems to be a hit. So, to celebrate I'm going to host a giveaway. The summer edition of Ply magazine came out a few weeks ago, and I have an article in it. It's based around my technique of spinning silk lace weight with lower levels of twist. Of course one of the issues with print is that the image size is limited, so I thought I'd share some shots of the samples in a bit more detail. High Twist Medium Twist Low Twist Of course to get the full details you'll have to read the article!
If you don't have a subscription here's your chance to get a copy of this edition. To enter all your have to do is leave me a comment with the details of the finest yarn you've ever spun. I want to know metres it was per gram (take the total meterage and divide it by the total weight of the skein), and what it was made from. If you don't include both those pieces of information your entry won't count! All yarns count, no one is judging, we all spin different yarns for different purposes, and have different levels of experience. Entries close at midnight (BST) on Thursday 16th July 2015.

I think my hilltop cloud peacock gradient: approximately 4.7m per gram, 30% Shetland, 50% Merino and 20% Silk. Still not decided what to make with it. I am thinking of some sort of shawl. My finest yarn was 5.8m/gram, and it was totally unintentional. I was a very new spinner and made this 3 ply fine yarn from a merino/silk blend. I managed to turn it into a wirey awful mess! I tried for socks and had such tunnel vision that when i could tell it wasn't working, I actually chucked the whole works in the trash. I still can't believe I did that! Should have ran it back through the wheel to remove some twist and done something (ANYTHING!!) with it!

My finest was ITW Corrieade that I spun into a 2-ply with 610 meters per 113 g. Since the colors were more like my mom's I gave it to her as a x-mas present. She knitted it into a lovely big shawl :)

I've not been spinning for long but I somehow spin thin rather than chunky. My finest spun has already been knitted and emigrated to South America with a friend, but I've got a very similar one and is my own prepared fleece of Black Welsh Mountain (100%) and is 4.8m per gram.

My finest yarn of any substantial quantity is a 2-ply angora silk blend from the Luxe club. 6.85 m/g. I still haven't decided what to use it for.

My finest was 4 meters per gram made from a cashmere/merino blend that was gifted to me when I first started to spin. It took me a couple of years to work up the courage to tackle it. Comments are closed.
