Many moons ago, long before the blog was directly on my website I used to do an online advent calendar. A countdown through the days of December, a way of brightening up the dark days.
I'd stopped in recent years, because time is always in short supply. However, 2016 has been so crap (and to be honest my personal end of 2015 wasn't great, I should have read the warning signs!) that I've decided to revive it, by way of a so long, don't slam the door on your way out dismissal. Now one of the things that always cheers me up is learning new things. I am curious by nature, admire craftsmanship and skill, so love seeing all the clever things that as humans we're capable of creating. So I am going to focus on that, because you never know where education might take you. Each day will be a different skill, quite a few will be spinning based, but I'm going to try and mix it up a little. So here's where I hope you come in... what other crafts do you do? Are there any good video tutorials for them, what about kits? How did you get started in that craft. Leave me a comment, spread the love for creativity.

Really looking forward to this! I've dabbled in various crafty hobbies but none has hooked me like spinning! Where shall I start? I am an embroiderer, a feltmaker, I do drop spinning, and I knit for fun!! It all started when I was eight and my aunty bought me a little tapestry kit. For years it was just a hobby and now it is my job! I love it. I work in schools spreading the creativity bug, and do my own pieces.

I am a beginner in stamp making (it's fun), needle tatting, intermediate in weaving and reasonably advanced in knitting, spinning and crochet. I want to try and learn needle felting and wet felting, plus beat my phobia of machine sewing.

I mainly do spinning and knitting. I am self taught in spining, knitting and crochet! In the past I have done lots of felting, needle felting, card making and paper crafts, cross stitch and ceramics. I am also playing about with polymer clay and pyrography at the moment. There is always something new to learn!

Just a few of the crafts I've practised over the years: knitting, embroidery, tatting, bobbin lace, tapestry, sewing, weaving, spinning, dyeing, pottery, cake decorating, chinese brush painting. I'm better at some than others! My main loves are spinning, weaving and knitting and having just tried out a saori loom at our last Guild meeting, I'm seriously thinking of parting with one of my multi-shaft looms and getting one of these next year .... it is indeed a slippery slope :)

I was inspired by an embroidery exhibition at the knitting and stitching show. Bought hoops and fabric and crewel wool. Haven't done more than a few stitches! I loved the idea of stitching with handspun someday. I guess I haven't really got started 😂 I wish all the best for ourselves for the advent period and the new year. As a craftsperson I used to do folk embroidery when I was young. My mother's family did embroidery, they used different vivid colours with skill and taste. I was interested in doing point lace, using a nail, a simple thread and sew fine lace. Comments are closed.
