Ceilidh

Ceilidh celebrates the changing seasons, our ever changing landscape, and the landmarks in our calendar.

This collection is being discontinued during Spring 2018.

A Sparkly, Blended Fibre Collection.
8 festivals have been translated in to fibre form, creating a variety of co-ordinating colours in the same fibre base.
25% BFL, 12.5% Soya Silk, 12.5% Shetland, 5% Angelina, 45% Merino

A ceilidh is a time of celebration, when people come together to look forward to the future, and think about the past. The break bread, share drinks and stories, sing and dance. There's a reason that we have seasonal celebrations, they help us get through the dark winter months, celebrate the coming of better weather, and commemorate the hard work of a successful season of work.

Even though we're separated by thousands of miles I hope that spinning this collection of fibre will help to tie us together and remind us of our shared past.
You can purchase the fibres in the collection here.

Imbolc is the first festival after mid-winter. While spring has not yet arrived, it's a festival that celebrates the first stirrings of new growth. This festival had particular significance for shepherds as it co-incided with the arrival of lambs. Think of a frosty morning, the grass sparkling, and a snow drop dancing in the breeze.
Picture
Ostara is the spring equinox, from now on we can look forward to longer days than nights. Spring is at it's height, new growth is everywhere, spring bulbs are blooming, and the birds are laying eggs. The winter is over and summer is coming.
Picture
Beltane is the traditional start of summer. By now winter is a distant memory, people celebrated by crowning the Queen of the May, as the hawthorn blossom had covered the hedges in delicate white flowers edged in pink with delicate yellow centres. This festival celebrates the arrival of flowers, and the brightness they bring to our world.

Litha is celebration of Midsummer, the sun is at its most powerful, and the longest day is here. In the 7th century Bede wrote :- "Litha means gentle or navigable, because in both these months the calm breezes are gentle and they were wont to sail upon the smooth sea
Picture
Lammas is the harvest festival. It celebrates the gathering of the grain, and the importance wheat serves in our diet.
Picture
Mabon is the autumn equinox, mid-way between Midsummer and Yule. The harvest has all been collected, the autumn fruits are being harvested, and the hedgerows glisten with jewel like fruit. From now on the weather will get worse, and the nights draw in, but for now it's time to celebrate the fruits of the autumn.
Picture
Samhain is a festival of the past. It's a time of thinking about those we have loved who are no longer with us. A festival of darkness, held in November at the end of the year, Winter is coming and the nights are drawing in
Picture
Yule celebrates the darkest point of the year. From now on the days start getting longer, it's a time of new beginning. We celebrate this festival and the promise of new growth by bringing evergreens in to our houses.
