From my home in rural mid-Wales I carefully select the best fibre I can find, add a bit of colour magic, and send it to spinners and other crafters all around the world.
I taught myself to spin in 2009 and my love affair with fibre has seen me through several jobs, relationships and houses. HilltopCloud was set up in 2011 when I left my job as a teacher. I always enjoyed combining colour, and different fibres, and that love has translated in to my full time business.
I specialise in unique fibres. I carefully select wool for different purposes, sometimes add in other fibres, I then dye it in my own unique one-of-a-kind colours. I also curate blends using commercially dyed fibre. I try to create complex multi-tonal colours that end up as beautiful yarns. I test spin everything myself, and spend lots of time sourcing and trialling new ideas.
I'm passionate about wool, and it's qualities, it really is a wonder fibre, with so much variety. Every breed has it's use.
I sell drop spindle kits, perfect for people who want to learn to spin, but aren't sure if they want to invest in a spinning wheel. I pride myself on selling spindles which are simple, yet effective. They aren't complicated, or decorative, but they do work, which is the most important thing.
I live in a small converted barn next door to my parents. Between us we do everything associated with the shop. My Mum helps to pack orders and is often found on my stand when I sell at Fibre Festivals. My Dad is responsible for all the hand turned wooden tools, and is chief chicken minder while I'm away.
